Choosing a New TV

Buying a TV may not be so simple when you look at all the things that need to be taken into account. Many questions need to be asked before committing to a specific TV. Will you need a DVD player with that? Will you take a TV stand or a wall mount? Do you need any specific cables for your setup? And you’ll need things like surge protectors, good speakers, and a remote control.

And once you get the decisions made and get your TV home, installation is the next big step. You used to just bring it home, plug it in, and hook up the antenna. Not today. There’s so much involved in installing a TV now that many opt for getting it done professionally. Of course, this takes more cash out of pocket. But many find it a small price to pay when weighed against the option of doing it themselves.

A very popular trend today is getting a ‘big-screen’ TV. Whenever you’re shopping for ANY TV, whether large or small, you need to keep in mind the size of the screen in proportion to the size of the room where it will be viewed. You don’t want to have to squint at one too small, or watch a blurry picture on one that’s too big and sitting too close.

If you’ve been sold on a certain brand, and have had your current TV for some time, it may be a good idea to check out other brands this time. Technology has produced many new styles and types of TV and to be locked into one brand really cuts off a lot of options. Be open-minded and see what’s out there, and keep in mind all your wants and needs from your TV.

Besides knowing what you want from your TV, you also have to meld that with what you want to spend. If you can nail these two facts down, then you’re ready to shop and compare TVs that fall into your shopping category. You’ve narrowed it down some, but you’ll still have plenty to look at, and many options to decide on.

If you decide to go with a high-definition TV then resolution becomes a factor. They are naturally higher in resolution than standard TVs, but they also vary from one to another. Plasma TVs seem to be all the rage now and rightly so, with their flat panel options and bright clear pictures. Also available in high definition are the LCDs, which are a bit less quality picture than the plasma, but the price is a little friendlier up-front.

You should remember that your TV can receive it’s signal in many different ways. Some depend on antenna, while others opt for cable or digital cable. Some prefer the satellite dish and the enormous amount of channels that come with it. But regardless of which type of signal you choose, your TV has to be setup for receiving it.

So by now you have an idea that buying a TV takes some modern day knowledge due to the new technologies available in this area. But it’s not hard to learn about them, and it pays to be armed with some of this knowledge before you run out and make a purchase of a set like the Samsung UE46B7000. Gone are the days when the choice was either buy a EMI, HMV, or Philips. Your options are numerous and TVs are not just TVs any more, but entertainment systems for your home and family.
