The Sony KDL32W550 0U TV – One For Your Shortlist
There is a huge range of Sony Bravia LCD TV’s and the KDL32W550 0U is one of these, and they are at the top of the range. Although the 1920×1080p Full HD panel is now pretty standard, the “W” series displays was one of the first.
It is a LCD TV, what else? And for this type of technology the price is excellent; the KDL32W550 0U has a USB port, and Ethernet jack for Applicast which allows the TV to be connected to the internet with full browsing features. The USB can handle all kinds of music, video and photo files and with 4 HDMI inputs you have pretty much got every base covered.
100Hz Motionflow technology, together with engine imaging from the Bravia range makes for a brilliant, quality TV. Retailers are moving these KDL32W550 0U tvs fast at really great prices and this is part of the charm of buying this top of the range television set. Everyone wants one, because they know they are getting a good deal!
The attractively framed KDL32W550 0U screen is a generous 32″ and is more than adequate, it looks more compact because of the glossy black bevel surround. Take care of scratching, although the tv does come packed with protective covers on the scratchable surfaces. These glossy surfaces look good, but much like mobile phones which are also packed with protective coverings they also get scratched with heavy use.
Even though it has a 32″ screen the KDL32W550 0U is still a compact unit. It also have a smallish footprint, so for TV shoppers who have limited space it may be good option. It also looks more compact than it is, so it won’t create clutter, or look over-imposing with your TV room decor. Some reviews have said they prefer the way the 32E5500 looks, but I don’t. I prefer the “W” model.
Most of the menus on Sony Tv sets are of the “Wega Gate” variety, the KDL32W550 0U differs in that the menu is represented by icons. These closely resemble the icons used by the Playstation 3. It is a far more inventive user interface, I like it but others may disagree and might prefer the more traditional type of menu with a faster response time.
Getting used to the KDL32W550 0U menu may be difficult to get used to for the traditional menu user. Take my father for example, he thinks my TV is so advanced it doesn’t need a remote. I just don’t tell him that I have hidden it so he can’ meddle with my settings. You know what men are like with remote controls!
The video processor on the KDL32W550 0U is really good, perhaps not the best on the market, but certainly more than passable. Most of the people who are going to be using these set television sets, probably wouldn’t know the difference, it is only if you know what to look for that you see how effectively it reduces flicker.
The Sony Bravia KDL32W550 0U is a great top of the range Sony model, it works perfectly with my decor and was exactly the right price for me. It blends well with my modern/art deco style furniture, and fits beautifully into the corner that has been awaiting its arrival.
